Patient Care Continuum

Life Support Patient Care Continuum® is a proprietary algorithm that provides focused care to patients WITH existing wounds or At-Risk for Pressure Ulcers. Beginning with the Hospital Nursing Assessment, Wound Team Assignment, Bed Rentals, In-Patient Hyperbarics and a Planned Discharge to your Hospital Wound Center, Rehab Hospital, Nursing Care or to Home with VNS support.

Our Programs can REDUCE Length of Stay (LOS) , Bed / Mattress Rental costs, and reduce Re-Admissions all while Optimizing Hospital Reimbursement, Patient Satisfaction and Retention.

National Accreditation / Board Certification Critical to Reimbursement. The Healthcare Reform Act of 2010 has some very important considerations for both new and existing Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Services. The NYS DOH Certificate of Need (CON) authorization for new services will become highly restricted or totally eliminated by 2015. Existing services will be required to have board certified staff, national accreditation and outcome-based evaluators to maintain their eligibility for CMS patient referral and reimbursement. We expect most commercial carriers to implement similar Quality Assurances. READ MORE

“Center of Excellence” Designation – In an effort to reduce over-utilization, fraud, and abuse, CMS will designate a number of strategically located hospitals with nationally accredited Wound / Hyperbaric Programs as CMS “Centers of Excellence.” Only those centers meeting NEW CMS criteria will be eligible for CMS patient referrals and reimbursement.

Commercial Insurances Requiring Accreditation - A growing number of commercial insurance carriers are requiring National Accreditation and / or Staff Board Certification. Mohawk Valley Physicians (Now a partner of the Cigna Network) had mandated that hyperbaric facilities that do not have National UHMS accreditation by June 2013 will not be eligible to receive reimbursement. This will require the patients with such Insurances to go to Accredited Facilities. Recently, Independence Blue Cross has announced that effective October 2014, all Hyperbaric Treatments must be supervised by Hyperbaric Board Certified Physicians to be eligible for reimbursement.
